I have recently been writing alot of articles and looking into a more productive markets. I have been researching what the big fish are using as bait and have learned a great deal. Hobbies, use your personal hobbies to write and market what you know. All the other guys want to sell you the information; which is great but I can not afford to buy everyone's products. What I do is read what they give for free, and research books in free places like barnes and nobles, the library any internet free sources. I love gardening therefore it is easier to write what I already love. Looking into what you love and writing about it makes it easier to sell your work, trust me I have been there.
Reviews,as a reader before you get into a book the first thing you want to know is if it's any good. Why does Oprah create such over whelming success for her book club authors? First because she's Oprah second because she gives such good reviews, Use a webpage of your very own to review books, movies, television sitecoms, whatever it is you enjoy, when someone looks for info on a book, movie your reviews come out. Focus on a project at a time but multi-tasking is critical, I recently read a phrase I love because it rings so true to me. Work , revise, revise, then revise some more, critique, listen to your words out loud, when finished and perfected send your work out, record it in a log ( I have a composition note book as a log) write date title, date sent publisher/market, then and this is the most important, forget it go on to your next project, when you do this you will see, the postive, you will let your work do it;s purpose and take it's coarse. Second when you have one success keep it out loud focus on what that winner wants, try to sell them more of your work, Most of the time the editors like to work with easy going writers and if you have already done work for them they will most likely use you again. Look into less profitable smaller markets, I write alot of gardening stories and I look upon online magazines, out of country like UK they love to hear out of town stories. Write what you know is easy for starters, MY quote is WRITE WHAT YOU FEEL,. when you write with your heart you write strong and different, don't put yourself down their is always someone out there that will enjoy your work. Practice makes perfect. But don't burn yourself if you can't see the creation to the crisp. Leave it alone for a bit and then come back to it, if there were flaws you will catch them, if there wasn;t you will feel refreashed and ready to send your work. Do it just do it, sometimes we are too afraid to even tey to send our goods, unless we get ourselves out there enough we will never know, and beleive me you will run into the right publisher that will enjoy your work. Promote yourself like www.helium.com helium is great for new writers, they even have a marketplace where publishers can read your work and even get you published, Look in between the lines, writers digest, join a book club, go meet authors and listen to their stories.
Use the internet as your world, in this era we have a great positive working for us the internet. We are entrepenuers working from home. Market yourself online, make up a resume, www.elance.com have great oportunities, travel writing is hot write now, but you don't have to go anywhere to start. Start in your home town, if you are in a city that people love to vacation at you have a plus, look for a place enjoyed research it and write it in a article send your work to travel magazines, Shopping guides, travel guides, hiking guides, their are plenty of hobbies you can use in your writing reviews, and guides is an easy way to create your niche.
Topics like chique boutiques, restaurants, outings, write about children friendly places, these are all great ideas for reviews, guide book writer. Amusement parks great idea for reviews, . Pictures sell though you may not be into photography sometimes when sending your work and you have great pictures the editor really think about ti and can actually get you the part.
